October 2013 - April 2014
The Pinboard team aimed to define a better accounting and business tool for small businesses. Together, we conducted ethnographic research that funneled into our design principles and vision. As part of our rapid experimentation towards the right solution, I created iPad designs to implement and track usage. This project is currently on hiatus.
Techniques: ethnographic research, design strategy, wireframes
The team (PM, user researcher, engineer and I) conducted ethnographic research through follow-me-homes and interviews. Through >15 sessions with small business owners, we created project workflows and started to pull out insights from their words and actions.
Through conversations, creating information architecture straw men, developing personas, storyboards and empathy maps, we started to distill insights and define design requirements. We also created a vision and a storyboard to support said vision to leadership.
I created wireframes and mockups with an ecosystem-first mindset by connecting with the iPad, iPhone, Android and QuickBooks Online teams. I started with the tablet platform to iterate through ideas and get feedback from cross-functional and design team members.
